Camp Harvey

A group of young indigenous women spent time at Mornington Adventure Camp, Harvey, Western Australia.

Our Mob Your Mob One Mob
24th November 2007 Esperance Civic Centre

Escare Youth Service, including 14 young indigenous women invited the local community to attend a concert performance featuring 'Our Mob Your Mob One Mob' dance performers together with Ngadju Indigenous Dance Group and the Wongatha Band.

The concert was after three months of dance rehearsals and preparation by over 40 young people. Workshops included a visit from Perth Hip Hop specialist Lena John; holding two awesome workshops in October.

Goldfields Football Academy Carnival
17-18th March 2007 Kalgoorlie Camp School (boys aged 12-16yrs)

The 4th year we have taken a team to Kalgoorlie for this carnival. Thanks to Esperance Port Authority and Esperance Shire for their financial contributions.

2006

Girls Camp and Boys Camp
Late December 2006 (Girls) and January 2007 (boys).

Many thanks to the local service clubs; Esperance Bay Rotary and the Rotary Club of Esperance who generously funded these camps.

Esperance Aboriginal All Stars Vs Goldfields Football Academy
14th June 2006, Esperance Oval (Age group 12 - 15 yrs)

The Esperance All Stars won at home for the first time. This game was the 4th in a series, of what has become an annual event.

P.C.Y.C. Mornington Adventure Camp
21-25th May 2006, Harvey WA (Age group 16 and upwards)

This camp was organised in conjunction with Disability Services, and focused on inclusiveness for all, participation, having a go, acceptance of others, recognising and appreciating each others contributions, differing strengths and capabilities.

The itinerary included - mid and low ropes courses, absailing, initiative activities, raft building and rafting, orienteering, flying fox, horse riding, climbing wall and canoeing. This camp was followed by a very successful scrap book and photo album night for all the participants.

Goldfields Football Academy Carnival
18-19th March 2006 Kalgoorlie Camp School (27 boys, aged 12-16yrs)

The 3rd year we have taken a team to Kalgoorlie for this carnival. This year 10 teams from all around the state were competing. We played 4 games and won two, our first wins at the carnival.

2005

Esperance Aboriginal Men’s Health Camp
6-11th October 2005, Various Places of Significance

Escare Youth Worker, Ray Davis was invited by the Esperance Aboriginal Health Service to bring along four youths to participate in the Aboriginal Men’s Health Camp. Participants came from all around the state and this was a great opportunity for the four young men to develop a better understanding of their culture, as well as being involved in work shops on a subjects, such as health, legal issues, drugs and alcohol through to domestic violence.

The camp took place in locations of significance, such as Mt. Ridley. Mt. Andrew, across to Balladonia, down the Balladonia track to Balbinia Station, Mt. Ragged through to Israelite Bay, Point Malcolm, and many water holes and significant sights used by the local indigenous families and early settlers.

Explorus Adventure Learning Camp
26-30th September 2005, nr Margaret River (Age Group 13-16 years)

Activities included absailing down the spectacular cliffs at Wilyabrup There was also absailing through a pipe entry cavern into Giants Cave, finishing with an exploration of the cave. The High Ropes program offered a series of challenging activities set in the magnificent Karri forest of the Leeuwin National Park.

There was also a full day canoe trip down the Blackwood River and a follow up workshop of the P.A.S.H. Program (Promoting Adolescent Sexual Health) held in July at the P.C.Y.C. Mornington Adventure Camp.

Create and See - Scrap Booking and Photo Album Workshop
24th August 2005, nr Margaret River (Age Group 13-16 years)

This four hour workshop was to enable participants from the P.C.Y.C. Mornington Adventure Camp (see below) to make there own photo albums of the camp - Each participant had been supplied with a camera on the camp.

P.C.Y.C. Mornington Adventure Camp
11-15th July 2005, Harvey WA (12 male youths, aged 12-17 years)

Activities included, Absailing, Climbing Wall, High Ropes, Rafting, Team Building Games, Flying Fox, Crate Climbing, Ten Pin Bowling, Movie at the cinema’s in Bunbury, as well as a feed.

The P.A.S.H. Program (Promoting Adolescent Sexual Health) which has been created by Family Planning of W.A. was also presented in a series of workshops during the week long camp.
